புறநானூறு - 79. பகலோ சிறிது!

மூதூர் வாயில் பனிக் கயம் மண்ணி
மன்ற வேம்பின் ஒண்குழை மலைந்து
தெண்கிணை முன்னர்க் களிற்றின் இயலி
வெம்போர்ச் செழியனும் வந்தனன்; எதிர்ந்த

வம்ப மள்ளரோ பலரே;
எஞ்சுவர் கொல்லோ பகல்தவச் சிறிதே?


பொருளுரை:


தனது பழைய நகரத்தின் வாயிற்புறத்தே உள்ள குளிர்ந்த நீருடைய குளத்தில் மூழ்கி,
பொதுவிடத்தில் உள்ள வேப்பமரத்தின் ஒளிபொருந்திய தளிர்களை அணிந்து,
தெளிந்த ஒலியுடைய பறை முன்னே ஒலித்துச் செல்ல,
அதன் பின்னர் யானையைப்போல் பெருமிதத்தோடு நடந்து கடுமையான போர் செய்யப் பாண்டியன் நெடுஞ்செழியன் போர்க்களத்திற்கு வருகிறான்.

அவனை எதிர்த்துப் போர் புரிவதற்கு அணியணியாகப் புதுப்புது வீரர்கள் பலர் வருகிறார்களே!
பகற்பொழுது மிகச் சிறிதே (எஞ்சி) உள்ளதால், சில பகைவர்கள் தப்பிவிடுவார்களோ?
